The CBF regulated this Wednesday (8) mixed football competitions in Brazil. Women will be able to participate in men’s teams and women’s teams will be released to participate in competitions previously reserved only for men. This will be at the discretion of the organizing entity of the championship.
The measure is valid in all categories, from the base to the adult amateur. Does not include professional.
The Confederation follows the example of countries like France, Germany, Denmark and Holland, which also allow mixed football. In England, this is allowed up to under-18s.
“Mixed football works with massification and inclusion. There is a lack of teams and, above all, amateur competitions at the local and regional level in the first categories of initiation and sports training, such as the Under-10, Under-12, Under-14. that the regulation of mixed football will help to correct this problem, encouraging the participation of thousands of players in mixed teams and competitions”, said the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues.
Women’s football remains exclusive to women’s teams, with no male participation.
The CBF also instituted a mechanism to reduce the physical difference in mixed championships. Women’s teams and players of a certain age group will be able to face or play with men’s teams of a lower age.
Girls aged 17 are free to participate in tournaments with boys aged 13 and under, for example.
The entity’s idea is to promote equal opportunities for young athletes who have difficulties finding clubs. The CBF promises to campaign for the adoption of mixed competitions in its affiliates.
