Minister Cármen Lúcia countered comments by colleague Kassio Nunes Marques during a discussion on a case of electoral fraud in Ceará in a session of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court).
This Thursday (27), the electoral court concluded, by 4 votes to 3, that there was fraud in the gender quota for Citizenship in the 2020 election in the candidacies for councilor in Itaiçaba (CE).
During the session, Kassio said it was necessary to “have empathy” and that the candidate in question was “abandoned” by the party. Carmen disagreed with the speech and reinforced the women’s desire for respect.
“I understand when Your Excellency says, in a way that sounds almost paternal, that you need to have empathy […] When it is said that the party abandoned, as it used to be said that the husband abandoned, poor thing. We don’t want to be poor people, we want to be equal citizens.”
The minister also said that it was necessary to recognize the candidate “as a person endowed with autonomy, without needing to be supported or dripped. This is what we women do not want”.
“What we women want is not empathy, but respect for our rights. You have to recognize her as a person endowed with autonomy, without needing to be supported or dripped. This is what we women do not want” , said the minister.
“I understand when Your Excellency says, in a way that sounds almost paternal, that it is necessary to have empathy. We know exactly what it is to be treated with disrespect. It is not devaluing and thinking that women are poor things, because we are not poor women, we are autonomous people equally and , so when it is said that the party abandoned, as it used to be said that the husband abandoned, poor thing. We do not want to be poor things, we want to be equal citizens “, continued.
