Carlos Jordy wins dispute and assumes the leadership of the opposition in the Chamber

Federal deputy Carlos Jordy (PL-RJ) will be the leader of the opposition in the Chamber to the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The parliamentarian won an internal dispute between deputies Luiz Philippe de Orleans and Bragança (PL-SP) and Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) and secured the right to assume the post.

Jordy’s decision to lead the opposition was already taken for granted behind the scenes on Monday night (30), but confirmation came this Tuesday (31) after internal meetings. To be official, it still needs to appear in the Chamber’s system, explains the parliamentarian himself to People’s Gazettebut he assures that his name has already been submitted by acclamation.

Jordy also points out that the national president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, and the leader of the party in the Chamber, Altineu Côrtes, supported his name. “They liked the composition we did and gave the ‘okay'”, he says. The parliamentarian promises a leadership of “great desire to help the country” in “stopping disastrous agendas in the economy and customs”, such as loans of BNDES resources to neighboring countries and a single currency adopted by Mercosur countries.

“All of this we are going to fight very bravely, obstructing, always opining and fighting until dawn, if necessary, to prevent the advancement of these guidelines and ensure that there is the approval of constructive guidelines for Brazil, of development, employment, income and guidelines that can strengthen the customs of the Brazilian population”, highlights Jordy.

The opposition leadership will be composed of nine other vice-leaders, one from Novo, who will be deputy Marcel van Hattem (RS) or Gilson Marques (SC). Another eight will be from the PL, among them, Orleans and Bragança and the deputies Filipe Barros (PL-PR), Júnior Amaral (PL-MG) and Cabo Gilberto (PL-PB). A vacancy can be allocated to the PP, if the party adopts an opposition stance.
