Manaus (AM) — Three days on a boat and a dream: to win as many medals as possible at the 10th Amazon Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, taking place this weekend, April 22 and 23, at the Amadeu Teixeira Arena, in Manaus. This is the mission of the delegation representing the Carauari Youth Center (788 kilometers from Manaus).
In the two administrations of Mayor Bruno Ramalho, the municipality of Calha do Rio Juruá has been standing out in sports in different modalities. Expressive results in jiu-jitsu, judo and futsal raised the municipality to the position of reference in sports management.
“We believe in and invest in sport as an instrument for the social inclusion of children, adolescents and young people. Sport prevents drug use, improves physical and mental health, as well as preventing drug use and violence”,
said the manager, who received the delegation before boarding for the capital.
Marathon
The group, which is led by professors Sidney Viana and Francisco Libório, left Caruari on Wednesday (12) and arrived in Manaus on Saturday (16). A total of three days and seven hours of travel along the region’s rivers aboard the boat Comandante Oliveira II. There are 19 members of the Carauari delegation, which will compete in the Amazonense for the fourth time. The local city hall is an example in supporting the sport, as it paid for all the investment in boat tickets, accommodation, food, kimonos and shirts for the tour.
“We want to thank the municipal government of Carauari, the Youth Center and we are going there to bring pride to our city. We will fight to bring the maximum number of medals to Carauari”,
said Hiago Lima, one of the team’s fighters.
