Cappelli says full images will clear suspicions of former GSI minister

The interim minister of the Institutional Security Office (GSI), Ricardo Cappelli, says that the full disclosure of the images showing the invasion of the Planalto Palace on January 8 will rid the suspicion of involvement of the portfolio’s predecessor, Marco Edson Gonçalves Days, with the protesters. The recordings, which were leaked to the press on Wednesday (19), were confidential and were delivered this Saturday (22) to the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

Cappelli says that the report released by CNN Brasil, which shows the former minister circulating among the demonstrators, was edited in the images with the “clear intention of reaching the government and the general”. For him, releasing the secrecy of the images will demonstrate that “there is no possibility of inference” to the general’s conduct.

“General Gonçalves Dias is a servant with decades of service to the Brazilian State. Now it is very important that people see the images without the cuts, without the editing, because cuts were made with the clear intention of targeting the government and the general. With the release of the images, it will be demonstrated that there is no possibility of deduction regarding the conduct of the general, who even, in a very honorable way, insisted on withdrawing from his duties so that there would be no doubt about the fairness of his conduct ”, he said in an interview with the newspaper O Globo on Friday (21).

The former minister even made similar statements on Wednesday (19), after resigning from his position, which led CNN Brasil to publish a note of repudiation and to make available on the channel’s website the full images of three cameras from the Palace of Plateau showing Gonçalves Dias among the demonstrators with other GSI agents.

“In light of the general’s statements, CNN informs that the full images involving the former minister and the criminals who invaded the Planalto Palace are available on all its platforms,” ​​the channel said in a note.

The images were under court secrecy, according to Cappelli, due to the investigations conducted by the STF into the acts of January 8.
