Canal Futura shows ‘Disconectados’, Folha’s documentary – 05/09/2023 – Educação

The documentary of Sheet “Disconectados”, which addresses the impacts of the pandemic on public education, will be shown on Canal Futura. The first showing on TV takes place next Friday (12), at 23h.

The film still has a re-exhibition scheduled for Saturday (13) at 8 pm.

The feature film addresses the challenges and efforts of students, families and educators during the Covid-19 pandemic. The recordings were held in the federal capital in 2021 and 2022.

“Disconectados” was selected for the 8th Brasília International Film Festival, in 2022, with four screenings in different locations in the federal capital. The production also received the 2022 Folha Award in the editorial initiative category.

Last year, “Disconnected” had a series of previews in theaters across the country. The first, in August, took place at Espaço Itaú de Cinema in São Paulo. Afterwards, the film moved on to Brasília, Salvador, Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte, an itinerary that included screenings followed by debates.

The production of Sheet has a partnership with Instituto República. Founded in 2016, the entity operates on the agenda of improving people management in the Brazilian public service.

The feature film is directed by journalists from Sheet Pedro Ladeira and Paulo Saldaña and filmmaker Ana Graziela Aguiar. The script and editing are signed by Nicollas Witzel, and the executive production is by the editor of TV Folha, Beatriz Peres.

The director of Canal Futura, José Brito, points out that it films some of the country’s main current educational challenges —from the difficulty of connectivity in some schools to the students’ mental health problems.

“The film is a Brazilian juice in the vein, fundamental for us to identify problems and opportunities for quality public policies. A work to debate with educators, students and families”, says Brito.

The documentary portrays the journey between closing and returning to school, investigating the reality imposed by the pandemic of disconnection with friends, with learning and with the school environment itself.

“‘Desconectados’ is the result of persistent work that helps tell a little about the history of education in Brazil, not just during the pandemic,” says the editor of Special Projects and Partnerships at Sheet, Roberto de Oliveira. “It is important that it reaches different corners of the country through partnerships that help keep the documentary alive”.

Brazil was one of the countries with the longest time of closed schools during the pandemic. The second half of 2021 marked the on-site return in most of the country after the closure of the units, which started in March 2020.

The 38 million public school students faced an average of 287 days without school — the equivalent of about a school year and a half without classes. Research and evaluations have already shown damage to education.

This is the second feature film produced by Sheet. In 2014, the newspaper launched “June – O Mês que Abalou o Brasil”, directed by João Wainer, about the demonstrations that took over the country in the previous year.
