The president of the Economic Affairs Committee (CAE) of the Federal Senate, Vanderlan Cardoso (PSD-GO), sent this Friday (19) letters to the ministries of Finance, Labor and Development of Industry and Commerce, asking for information about “generation of jobs due to the implementation of public payroll tax relief policy”.

According to the parliamentarian, the requests for information are “due to the discussions taking place at the moment regarding the exemption and denial of payroll in certain sectors of the economy”.

Cardoso mentions that “the measure initiated in 2012 aims to stimulate the creation of jobs in our country” and therefore requests “information about the results of such public policy, specifically regarding the annual number of jobs created by the benefited sectors, and which indicators were used for such measurement”.

The information requested refers to the document released by the Ministry of Finance in which distortions caused by the tax waiver were pointed out to justify the issuance of Provisional Measure 1,202, which gradually reinstates salaries.

The MP published by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) at the end of 2023, vetoes the exemption from the payroll of the sectors that employ the most in the country and is considered a “disastrous” option and the result of the “fiscal desperation” of the government by experts interviewed by Gazeta do Povo.

This Friday (19), the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), said that the payroll exemption for 17 sectors will be extended. Therefore, there will no longer be a gradual reinstatement of the social security contribution established by the government in Provisional Measure 1,202. According to him, the reduction in the social security rate from 20% to 8% will also be maintained for municipalities with up to 156,216 inhabitants.
