Manaus (AM) – In June, Teatro Gebes Medeiros, Avenida Eduardo Ribeiro, 937, in the center of the capital, hosts two sessions of “Cabaré Chinelo”, a show by Ateliê 23 inspired by the research of Narciso Freitas and in partnership with the Argentinean theater company García Sathicq. Performances take place this Saturday, 10th, at 8pm, and Sunday, 11th, at 7pm. Advance tickets are available on Sympla (sympla.com.br) or Instagram (@atelie23). Classification is 18 years old.

The “Cabaré Chinelo” has support from the Government of Amazonas, through the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, University of the State of Amazonas (UEA) and Foundation for Research Support of the State of Amazonas (Fapeam), in addition to the National Arts Foundation (Funarte) and Fondo de Ayudas para las Artes Escénicas Iberoamericana – Iberescena.

“Cabaré Chinelo” offers the public an immersion in the Belle Époque of Manaus between 1900 and 1920, to tell stories of real women who were forced into prostitution in a large international and sexual trafficking scheme in the early 20th century, in the capital of Amazonas. . One of them is Antonieta Inversão, played by Andira Angeli, a multi-independent artist who moves between theater, dance and circus as languages.

“Antoinette is controversial, it is the thirst for life and the desire for death, because death promises a lot for her. Life offers pain, suffering, abuse, violence and death offers rest, so she lives in this conflict”, defines the actress. “The character has a profile of a person who was kidnapped from Argentina as a child and lived that life in Manaus”.

Representativeness

Andira points out that Antonieta represents a lot of strength and a place of resistance. She says that, to compose the character, she brought her experience as a transvestite.

“Antonieta had a narrative of violence that I can relate to. I live giving voice to other transvestites, echoing their voices to places where they couldn’t be and I feel that Antonieta is that too, she brings together the experience of women who couldn’t speak, who didn’t have choices”, comments the artist. “As a trans person, it’s representative for me to be in the scene. I know that, for the community, this place that other people wouldn’t see if I didn’t have it there is strong”.
