Brazilians who take gender into account in politics prefer female leaders, says survey – 03/04/2024 – Panel

An international survey carried out by the Ipsos Institute on the occasion of International Women’s Day, March 8, showed that, among Brazilians who take gender into account when defining their political preferences, the majority would like to be led by female leaders.
Of the total, 49% of Brazilians consulted said they had no preference regarding the gender of politicians, 32% said they would prefer to be led by women, and 17% by men, while 3% said they did not know.
In the general average, including 31 countries, 57% said they had no preference, 19% said they preferred women and 21%, men.
The research also points out that, for 36% of Brazilians, female political leaders are better than male ones at dealing with women fairly, while only 4% think that men perform better. Another 36% say they believe both are equally good.
According to the survey, 29% of Brazilians say they believe that female politicians are more honest, while only 4% say that men fulfill this role better. Another 37% say they are equally good, and 19% say they are equally bad.
The survey also shows that 19% of Brazilians say they have lived under the leadership of male politicians, while 9% say they have been led by women, and 59% say they believe they have experienced leadership from both men and women.
