Brazilians are highlights in the 5th edition of the France-Brazil Race – News of Brazil

With around 2 thousand participants, the 5th France-Brazil Race brought together, this Saturday (14), professional and amateur competitors from both countries in the municipalities of Oiapoque, in Amapá, and São Jorge, in French Guinea, on the Binacional Bridge.
This year the event is coordinated in partnership with the State Secretariat for Sports and Leisure (Sedel). The competition featured two routes, one of 6 KM and the other of 21 KM, considered a half marathon. In both races, the Brazilians dominated and won both races.
Governor Clécio Luís participated in the sports program and before starting the race, he took the opportunity to reinforce the integration between the people of Amapá and Guyana in this international cooperation.
“It’s the first time I’ve participated in the race. We came to honor and signal that we increasingly want to strengthen ties with the French side, in various areas, including sport. The event is beautiful, with the participation of athletes from all over the state, as well as those who came from Europe”, highlighted Clécio Luís.
The organizer of the Brazilian side of the France-Brazil Race, Charles Corrêa, spoke of the record number of participants. “We are very happy with this union. It is a new Government, which marks this integration that is fundamental for the border. Bring on the 2024 edition,” he said, excitedly.
The highlight was the half marathon champion (21km), José Maria de Almeida, who achieved a distance of more than a kilometer for second place, and a time of 1h08 minutes. This was the third time he participated in the competition.
“All our efforts paid off. I recently participated in another race in Kourou and came eighth, it was preparation. I train between 80 and 120 kilometers a week and always maintain a diet and dedication to the sport. I’m happy to win this race”, highlighted professional marathon runner, José Maria.
In the 6km competition, the Brazilian show was even greater and the first four places went to Brazil, with the title going to the corporal of the Brazilian Army (EB), Aldair da Silva, who alternates training and military service.
“I’ve only been in the sport for a year and a half and it’s very satisfying to win a race at this level. For me, it is a unique moment, even more so for those of us who combine daily work with athletics training”, emphasized Aldair.
The competition also brings together amateur participants from both sides and in this case, Guyanese, Florence Mayade and Suzie Maria, physical education teachers in Cayenne, capital of French Guiana.
“Excellent organization of the event and we will certainly rise up for this race, which we prepared a lot for and the dedication was worth it”, highlighted Professor Mayade.
The street race officially brought together 1,100 athletes, 550 Brazilians and 550 Guyanese; in addition to around 900 competitors who run without registration, in the so-called “popcorn”. The competition distributed R$20,000 in prizes for men and women.
