National productions “Betânia”, “Cidade; Campo” and “Dormir de Olhos Abertos” participate in two sections of the Festival with support from the Brasil no Mundo program

The 74th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival – Berlinale, which begins on February 15th, will once again have the presence of Brazilians representing national cinema. Three productions will have the support of the Brazil in the World initiative, from Projeto Paradiso, to participate in the festival.

The films “Cidade; Campo”, by Juliana Rojas – produced by Dezenove Som e Imagem, Globo Filmes, Canal Brasil, Telecine and O2 Play and “Dormir de Olhos Abertos”, by Nele Wohlatz – produced by CinemaScópio, Ruda Cine (Argentina) , Yi Tiao Long Hu Bao International Entertainment Co. (Taiwan) and Blinker Filmproduktion (Germany), will be in the Encounters section. “Betânia”, by Marcelo Botta and produced by Salvatore Filmes, will be in the Panorama section.

In addition to supporting the feature films, director and screenwriter Emanuel Lavor, member of the Paradiso Talent Network, participates with his new project “A Onça”, selected for the Paradiso 2024 Incubator, in the Script Station workshop, part of the Berlinale Talent Labs, also with the support of Projeto Paradiso. All of Projeto Paradiso’s actions at the German festival are gathered in a folder, in English, available at this link.

“The Berlin Festival is the third, of almost 30 planned events, that Projeto Paradiso will support this year, through the Brazil in the World program. And we’ve already started off on the right foot because these productions are powerful and deserve the prominence they are gaining on the international scene. We’ve been following ‘Betânia’ since Primer Corte, at Ventana Sur, in 2022, so we were happy to see it make its debut at the Berlin Festival. There is a lot of good news at the beginning of the year, which will be intense for the audiovisual sector”, celebrates Josephine Bourgois, executive director of Projeto Paradiso.

This year, Projeto Paradiso, through the Brasil no Mundo program, is expected to invest more than R$650 thousand to support the participation of selected Brazilian feature films and fiction series in 29 festivals and markets in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa. Among the new features are support for the main competitive exhibitions of the Tallinn Black Nights festivals (Estonia); Marrakech Festival (Morocco) and Busan Festival (South Korea), in addition to Iberseries (Spain), aimed at the series market. The traditional audiovisual events of Cannes, Rotterdam, Sundance, Locarno, San Sebastian, Guadalajara, Annecy, Biarritz, Toronto, Toulouse and Ventana Sur remain on the list of automatic contributions, in addition to South by Southwest, Jeonju, Tribeca and Frameline, among others . And, for the second year in a row, support for the Catalan genre film festival, Sitges, will be maintained.
