Brazil was runner-up, twice, in the Paralympic Cycling World Championship track and road, in Glasgow (Scotland), which runs until Sunday (13). This Thursday morning (10), Lauro Chaman won silver in the road time trial (class C5) by completing the 28.2 km course in 35min40s67, just 39s66 behind the winner, the Dutchman Daniel Abraham Gebru (35min01s01) . Bronze went to Frenchman Dorian Foulon (36min18s16). This is Chaman’s third medal in the United Kingdom: he has already secured two bronzes in the scratch and omnium track events held until Tuesday (8).

On Wednesday (10), São Paulo cyclist Gilmara do Rosário had already won the country’s first medal in the H2 class time trial race (handbike). Gilmara was runner-up after completing the 10.8 km distance in 34min37s07, behind only the Italian Roberta Amadeo (23min52s66). Another Italian, Angela Procida (36min37s40) took bronze.

The competition distributes the most points – twice as much as offered in World Cup stages – for the Paralympic ranking of nations, a parameter for defining vacancies for the Paris 2024 Games.

In addition to Lauro Chaman and Gilmara do Rosário, the Brazilian delegation is in Glasglow with 13 other cyclists. In the men’s team are Carlos Soares, André Grizante, Victor Herling, Ronan Fonseca, Ulisses Freitas, Dave Raposo and Marcos Melo; and the female group has Jady Malavazzi, Amanda Paiva, Carolina Leite, Sabrina Custódia, Victoria Barbosa, Mariana Garcia and Gilmara Sol.
