For the president of the Brazilian Confederation of School Sports (CBDE) and vice president of the International Federation of School Sports (ISF), Antônio Hora Filho, Brazil’s victory consolidates a work that seeks to encourage sport in schools, generating education and acting directly in the formation of the citizen. “Thanks to the federal government, after ten years, the biggest school competition in the world has returned to our country, and the feeling is of gratitude not only to our delegation for the historic campaign in Rio de Janeiro, but also to all the school federations that make this victorious gear happens”, he said in a message sent to Agência Brasil.

Rio de Janeiro’s Secretary of State for Sports and Leisure, Rafael Picciani, considered Brazil’s result a great achievement not only for the country, but also for Rio de Janeiro, which hosted the competition. “In addition to promoting school sports, the event made use of the Olympic legacy, allowed us to relive all the emotion of receiving athletes from all over the world here and stimulated popular participation, with free admission every day. It was a great joy to see Brazil break a record in the size of the delegation and close the medal table in first place.”

Brazil was also the host of the Gymnasiade in 2013. That year, the competition took place in Brasília, bringing together athletes from the under-18 category.

Gymnasiade 2023 competitions took place in 18 disciplines: archery, athletics, badminton, 3×3 basketball, boxing, karate, sports dancing, fencing, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, orienteering, paralympic swimming, swimming, table tennis , taekwondo, wrestling and chess.

The largest delegation was the Brazilian, which participated with 404 members and 323 student athletes, 161 women and 162 men from all states of the country, which, for the president of CBDE, is a result of the pro-equity actions developed by the entity.

“It means to say that the CBDE’s equity policy has been having beneficial effects for our society, definitely including women in sport”pointed out Antônio Hora Filho at the press conference for the presentation of the sporting event, on the 18th, at the Olympic Tennis Center, in the Barra da Tijuca Olympic Park, in the west zone of Rio.

All these equipment are in the west zone of the city.
