13-year-old cyclist dies after sudden illness during race in Paraná

Brazilian cycling is in mourning. Last Sunday (27), Henzo Cristiano Lacerda Nascimento, aged 13, died during a mountain bike race in Paraná Championship held in the city of Manoel Ribas, in the central region of the state.
According to the state Federation of the modality, the death was due to a sudden illness felt by the athlete during the competition.
“Henzo was always an outstanding boy, excellent at what he did and passionate about the world of Mountain Bike. He represented Manoel Ribas in several competitions, bringing medals and trophies to his city. […] Here is our tribute to this young athlete who had a bright future ahead of him”, said in a note the Secretariat of Sports of Arapongas (see at the end of the article).
According to local information, one of the organizers of the race that ended with the death of Henzo Cristiano Lacerda Nascimento was the young cyclist’s father, Cristiano Nascimento. Henzo was in second place in the state ranking and competed in competitions for the Nascimento Mountain Bike project, aimed at children aged seven and over.
According to the civil police present at the test site, the death will not be investigated as there is no evidence of crime in the competition in Manoel Ribas. The real cause of death will be disclosed after the scientific part of the city police analyze the body of the young cyclist.
