The team loses the vice-leadership of the international competition to the North Americans
Brazil received the United States this Sunday (18), for the eighth round of the Women’s Volleyball League of Nations and lost by 3 sets to 0, with partials of 25/22, 25/19 and 25/22.
Despite the defeat, Thaisa was the highlight and the main scorer in Brazil with 12 points. On the winning side, the main striker was Jordan Thompson, with 15.
With that, Brazil knows its second defeat in the tournament and the first in the last seven games. The selection now continues with 18 points conquered and loses the vice-leadership of the League of Nations to the USA, which now rises to the second position, with 19 points.
Thus, the second week of the League of Nations ends and Brazil returns to the courts only on June 28, in Bangkok, Thailand, to face Italy for the third week of the competition. The Americans, on the other hand, will play again in Suwon, South Korea, also on the 28th, against Poland.
The game
Brazil did well at the beginning of the first set, opening 3-0, but saw the Americans react early and turn the game around before the tenth point. The remainder of the partial was balanced, but those led by José Roberto Guimarães were unable to get ahead and the USA closed the set at 25 to 22.
The second set started more favorable to the American team, which opened 8 to 3 and put pressure on Brazil, which reacted and scored three points in a row. The partial, then, gave a balanced, but soon the USA unbalanced once more and closed the set without scares in 25 to 19.
The third set started with a snog for the Americans, who made it 6 to 0 and complicated the Brazilian mission even more. However, once again, José Roberto Guimarães’ team showed reaction power and tightened the set. But, as was the story throughout the duel, the USA was more resilient and closed the game with partial 25 to 22.
