The Brazilian artistic gymnastics team secured this Monday (2), during the World Cup qualifiers in Antwerp, Belgium, qualification for the team competition for the Paris-2024 Games, a feat not achieved in the Tokyo Olympics cycle. Alongside her teammates Julia Soares, Jade Barbosa, Flávia Saraiva and Lorrane Oliveira, Olympic medalist and current world champion Rebeca Andrade led Brazil, which scored 164.297 points to secure its place.
The qualifying competition is still ongoing in Antwerp, but the Brazilians, provisionally in third place, cannot leave the classification zone, reserved for the nine best teams in the championship. They are behind only the United States (171,395) and Great Britain (166,130), both with guaranteed places through last year’s World Cup. The team final will be played on Wednesday, starting at 2:15 pm Brasília time.
The main name in Brazilian gymnastics, Rebeca Andrade had an average of 56.865 points and qualified for the all-around final, the event in which she defended her title. The São Paulo gymnast officially debuted her new solo performance, which begins to the sound of “End of Time”, by Beyoncé, goes through “Movimento da Sanfoninha”, by Anitta, and ends with the melody of “Baile de Favela”, by MC João, music with which he has made a name for himself in recent years. He scored 14.633 and secured a place in the final.
Rebeca also qualified for the beam finals, with 13.800, and the vault, with 14.633, but should stay out of the fight on the uneven bars, a test in which she scored 13.966. In two decisions, Rebeca can be joined by her compatriot Flávia Saraiva, who scores 54.699 in the all-around and 13.833 on the floor. Julia Soares, Jade Barbosa and Lorrane Oliveira did not reach any finals.
