This Friday (15), the Ministry of Health registered 1,684,781 probable cases of dengue recorded since the beginning of 2024. The number is greater than the entire balance of 2023.

Last year, according to the government’s arbovirus panel, 1,658,814 probable cases were recorded — the sum of confirmed cases and those under investigation — of the disease.

Until March last year, Brazil had 671,185 probable cases of dengue, a number 151% lower than the current number.

The year 2024 is already the second worst in the historical series for dengue cases in the country. The year with the highest number of cases was 2015, when the Ministry of Health registered 1,688,688 probable cases of the disease.

Despite a high contamination rate, the worsening of the disease is less compared to previous years. In 2023, 1,094 deaths from dengue were recorded throughout the year, the worst number in history, while in 2024, there are 513 deaths confirmed to date.

Across the country, the Federal District, Minas Gerais and São Paulo are the states that record the most cases of dengue. Together, the three represent 33% of probable cases in Brazil, according to data from the arbovirus panel.
