The men’s team closed its participation in the Basketball World Cup 3×3, this Sunday (4) in Vienna (Austria), with the conquest of the fourth position. This was Brazil’s best campaign in an edition of the competition. The title went to Serbia, who beat the United States in the decision, and Latvia, current Olympic champion, completed the podium.
In their first game this Sunday, in the semifinals, the men’s team was beaten by the US team by 21 to 18. Then, in the dispute for third place, Brazil was beaten by Latvia by 22 to 12.
“Since we arrived in Austria, we’ve worked on exactly what we’ve been planning since February. We reached a historic semifinal and, when you reach this level of clash, the level is very high and we knew how to deal with it. We had an even semifinal with the USA and could have won. It’s about keeping up the work, correcting the mistakes, continuing to evolve and moving forward”declared the coach of the selection, Luca Carvalho.
The World Cup gave the top three teams a direct qualification for the Pre-Olympics of the Paris Olympic Games. Outside the podium, Brazil can seek its place in the tournament through the Copa America, at the end of the year, or also through the world qualifying for the Pre-Olympics in 2024.
