Brazil draws with Colombia and decides South American with Uruguay

As with Paraguay, the goalkeeper of Brazil played the leading role in the duel with Colombia, this Thursday, at the El Campín Stadium, in Bogotá, for the fourth round of the hexagonal final of the South American Sub-20. Kaique, replacing Mycael, saved a penalty and was responsible for holding the score 0-0 until the end.

With the result, the Brazilian team no longer has a perfect campaign and was in second place in the hexagonal, with 10 points. On Sunday, the duel with Uruguay, leader with 12, will define the champion of the tournament. Colombia is in third place, with 7, followed by Venezuela, 2, Ecuador and Paraguay, both with 1 point.

The duel started tense between the players of Brazil and Colombia. The owners of the house, with the support of the crowd and the need for a positive result to leave the Brazilian team behind in the leaderboard, did not accept a celebration by Marlon Gomes when he moved a ball in the defense field and went to get satisfaction. The referee ended up punishing the Brazilian athlete.

The first minutes were more balanced, with few chances created. Gradually, Colombia began to create some difficulties for Brazil. Goalkeeper Kaique was triggered a few times. It didn’t take long for the Brazilian team to respond and take control of the game until the final whistle of the first half.

In the second leg, Colombia came back with renewed confidence. But at 6 minutes, a scare. In a controversial decision, the arbitration signaled a maximum penalty for the hosts after the Brazilian goalkeeper collided with Alexis Castillo. In the penalty kick, Kaique, who plays for Palmeiras, provoked his rival, managed to distract him and saved the penalty.

The duel failed to gain emotion even with the substitutions promoted by the technicians. In an uncreative night, the two teams lacked to risk more in search of the goal and the victory. Not even the expulsion of Colombian Torres, aged 14, allowed Brazil to react.

In stoppage time, Luis Guilherme came close to giving Brazil the victory in a shot from outside the area that went close. The score, however, did not change and ended the same way it started, without goals.

Brazil will decide title against Uruguay

In the final round of the Sub-20 South American Championship, Brazil will decide the title against Uruguay. Qualifications for the category’s World Cup, taking place in Indonesia in May, and for the Pan American Games in Santiago, in October, are already guaranteed for Brazilians and Uruguayans.

The Pan and the Worlds will still count on Colombia. There remains the definition of a vacancy for the tournament in Indonesia: Venezuela, Ecuador and Paraguay are in dispute.
