CBF will pay a record prize to players and members of the technical committee of the Brazilian Pre-Olympic Team in the event of qualification for the Paris Games
It’s opening day for Brazil in the Venezuela Pre-Olympic Tournament. The Brazilian Under-23 team faces Bolivia, at 4pm (Manaus time), in Caracas, Venezuela, in the tournament that offers two places for the Paris Olympics. In the first phase, Brazil makes up group A, alongside Venezuela, Colombia, Bolivia and Ecuador.
The CBF will pay a record prize to the players and members of the technical committee of the Brazilian Pre-Olympic Team if they qualify for the Paris Games. Before the start of the Pre-Olympics, the entity’s president, Ednaldo Rodrigues, informed that he will allocate around R$10 million to the delegation for winning one of the places. Valuing the athletes, the CBF will pay almost R$7 million for the classification. The remainder will be allocated to members of the technical committee.
Each player will be entitled to US$60,000, which is equivalent to almost R$300,000, a prize 35% higher than that received by athletes in the last edition, in 2020. At the time, each player received US$50,000 for the Olympic spot, which which corresponded to around R$220 thousand.
“This record award is the result of the planning we carried out here in the Selections Department in alignment with the guidelines of President Ednaldo Rodrigues’ administration”,
said Claudia Faria, general manager of Selections.
Last minute reinforcement
Defender Lucas Fasson, recently integrated into the squad, spoke in an interview about his perception of the group after his arrival and also about the objectives in the competition. The Lokomotiv Moscow defender was called up by coach Ramon Menezes after an injury to Internacional’s defender, Matheus Dias, who had to be recalled. Lucas introduced himself to the team in São Paulo, where the delegation followed after the last day of preparation at Granja Comary, in Teresópolis (RJ).
Once on Venezuelan soil, the athlete regretted his teammate’s absence and said he found a united and prepared group. “Unfortunately we had our teammate absent for reasons of force majeure, but when I arrived here, I felt a very good energy, a competitive energy for the tournament. The staff welcomed me very well. Many colleagues, many good people. We are focused on the Pre-Olympics,” he said.
This is defender Lucas Frasson’s first call-up with coach Ramon Menezes, but the athlete is already a veteran of call-ups and has spent time with the Brazilian Under-15, Under-17 and Under-20 teams. Now representing the Under-23 National Team, Lucas says he is very happy and focused on the objective of qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
“I’m very happy to be here. It is always a huge pride to represent my national team. I’m very happy to represent my country and be able to help my teammates. I know that not only mine, but everyone’s goal here is to qualify for the Olympics and also be champion”, he concluded.
