Brazil beats Ivory Coast and advances in the Basketball World Cup – News of Brazil
[ad_1]
Brazil only had to win to move forward in the Men’s Basketball World Cup. In Jakarta, this Wednesday (30), the team suffered, especially in the first and last quarter, but defeated Ivory Coast by 89 to 77. The result qualified Gustavo De Conti’s team for the second phase of the World Cup and kept the dream of the Olympic vacancy for Paris 2024. The Brazilians return to the court on Friday (01), at 10:30 am, against the strong Canada. In the first phase, there were two victories (Iran and Ivory Coast) and one defeat (Spain).
The results of the first phase will be carried over to the second, when the teams from Group G, Brazil, cross with those from Group H – Canada and Latvia (Sunday’s opponent, at 6:45 am) were already classified in the other bracket and join Spain and Brazil. Of those four teams, two will move on from the Worlds, advancing to the quarterfinals. The Brazilians lost to the Spaniards, in the first phase, by 18 points.
Gustavo De Conti’s group is also looking for an Olympic classification in the World Cup. For the Americas, only two spots will be distributed and these will go to the two teams with the best campaign in the Cup. Brazil is in the fight with the United States, Canada (directly), Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic – Venezuela and Mexico are already eliminated in the first phase of the World Cup. Brazil has not competed in the Olympics since 2016, when Rio de Janeiro hosted the competition and won the vacancy for hosting.
Even if it doesn’t get an Olympic berth via the World Cup, Brazil will have another chance. For being among the best 16 at the World Cup, qualifying for the second phase, the team was guaranteed, at least, in the world Pre-Olympics, in June 2024. There will be 24 teams divided into four tournaments, in which only the champion of each key will go to Paris 2024.
