Botafogo no longer depends solely on its strengths to win the Brazilian Championship. In a delayed duel from the 29th round, the Rio team only drew with Fortaleza this Thursday (23), 2-2, and were unable to regain first place in the table.
With the result, the Lone Star team now has 61 points, one less than the leader Palmeiras, both with 34 matches played, the same number as most teams in the competition.
In the last round, the Alviverde team took the top of the table by beating Internacional, 3-0, while Botafogo drew with Red Bull Bragantino, 2-2.
The game with the team from Bragança Paulista was the sixth in a row without a victory for the Botafoguenses, with four defeats and two draws. The negative sequence made the club change coaches. Tiago Nunes arrived to take over from Lúcio Flávio, fired after the series that took the team out of the lead.
