Bolsonaro’s vacation in Orlando already cost the taxpayer R$885,000

Former President Jair Bolsonaro’s three-month vacation in Orlando (USA) has already cost the taxpayer R$885,000. And there is still a lack of accountability for the last 15 days in the United States. The biggest expense was with per diems and tickets for the ex-president’s advisors and security guards from January to March 15 – R$629,000. In January alone, three members of Bolsonaro’s support team received 87 per diems worth R$182,000. The total expense that month, including tickets, reached BRL 211,000.

Per diems for the support team at the end of December, when Bolsonaro was still president, added up to another R$150,000. In addition to expenses with per diems and tickets before the turn of the year, expenses totaling R$ 106.5 thousand were incurred with airport/commission fees, travel insurance and telephony, according to the Presidency of the Republic informed the blog through the Law of Access to information.

Salaries of advisors and security guards

These figures do not include compensation for the President’s support staff. The monthly payroll of advisors and security guards was R$ 124,000 until February. But there was the addition of another servant in March, a second sergeant in the Army, raising the payroll to R$ 134 thousand. This expense is fixed, with or without travel in Brazil or around the world.

The highest salary is that of reserve colonel Marcelo Câmara, who has a retirement pension of R$26,700 and earns R$10,400 for his position as advisor – a total of R$37,000. Reserve captain Sérgio Cordeiro has a pension of R$ 20.5 thousand and the position of special advisor of R$ 13.6 thousand, totaling R$ 34.2 thousand.

Bolsonaro’s perks and other former presidents are provided for in Law 7,474/1986. Former presidents are entitled to per diems and tickets for security guards and advisors, two armored official cars, fuel, vehicle rental, telephone and telecommunications. President Lula was entitled to these benefits until December 2020. They were suspended until the end of his current term.
