Bolsonaro’s defense: Cid’s cell phone was for ‘lamentations’ – 06/16/2023 – Power

The defense of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said in a note this Friday (16) that the new dialogues found on the cell phone of his former assistant, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, reinforce that he did not participate in articulations scammers.

The text adds that the former advisor’s cell phone had often become a “simple mailbox” for “the most diverse lamentations”.

The messages retrieved from Cid’s apparatus show dialogues in which interlocutors, Army officers and reservists, debated the use of the Armed Forces against the result of the elections won by Lula (PT). Part of the material was revealed by Veja magazine.

“The new dialogues revealed by Veja magazine prove, once again, that President Bolsonaro has never participated in any conversation about an alleged coup d’état”, says the note signed by lawyers Paulo Amador da Cunha Bueno, Daniel Tesser and Fábio Wajngarten.

“We also recorded that the adjutant, due to the function performed, received all the demands —applications for scheduling, messages, etc— that should reach the President of the Republic. His cell phone, therefore, on several occasions became a simple box of correspondence that registered the most diverse lamentations”, concludes the note.

The content released this Friday shows that one of the people who maintained a dialogue with Mauro Cid was Army Colonel Jean Lawand Junior, recently assigned to Brazil’s diplomatic representation in the United States, in Washington. The Army Command decided this Friday to annul the appointment of the military.

“Cid, for God’s sake, man. He [Bolsonaro] give the order that the people are with him, man. If the guys don’t comply, that’s their problem. The Brazilian Army ends if these guys don’t comply with the order of the Supreme Commander. How am I going to accept an order from a General, who did not receive, who did not accept the Commander’s order. For God’s sake, Citizen. For God’s sake, do something, man. Convince him to do it,” Lawand said in one of the audios, according to the PF transcript.

On the cell phone of Bolsonaro’s former adviser, there is also material with the thesis of the lawyer and emeritus professor at Mackenzie Ives University Gandra Martins, according to which Article 142 of the Constitution would allow the Armed Forces to intervene in the event of a conflict between the three Powers.

To UOL, Ives Gandra denied that he had contributed to coup ideas. He said the content found on Cid’s cell phone was prepared in 2017.
