Bolsonaro will have a monthly income of R$86,500 – 03/30/2023 – Power

After three months abroad, Jair Bolsonaro (PL) should start serving as honorary president of the PL next week, in an office next to the party’s national headquarters. For this function, he should receive a salary of R$ 39,293 from the acronym – an amount that is added to his pensions as a military man and deputy and which raises his monthly income to almost R$ 86,500.

Bolsonaro left for the US at the end of this Wednesday night (29) and should arrive in Brasilia this Thursday morning (30). He had left Brazil before the end of his term in order not to deliver the banner to his successor, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

“Next week, Jair Bolsonaro will formally assume the role of honorary president of the Liberal Party and will normally be dispatched to his office,” the PL said in a note.

With the salary of the PL, paid from April, Bolsonaro will have a monthly income of almost R$ 86.5 thousand. That’s because he also receives R$ 11,945 as a retired military man and R$ 35,223 from parliamentary retirement. He was a deputy for nearly 30 years.

In the negotiations for Bolsonaro to be honorary president of the PL, the possibility of the party covering the expenses of the house rented by the former president in a condominium in Jardim Botânico, an area with high-income houses in Brasília, was discussed. The hypothesis, however, did not materialize. Former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro and her daughters Letícia and Laura have already moved into the property.

Michelle became president of PL Mulher. She works in a room next to the one reserved for Bolsonaro and receives a salary of around R$33,000.

In December, Bolsonaro traveled to Florida to avoid participating in Lula’s inauguration and transmit the presidential sash to the PT, a symbolic act that marks the transfer of power from one representative to another. Now, he returns with the expectation of assuming the position of leader of the opposition to Lula.

The PL organized an event to receive him at the party’s headquarters.

According to members of the PL, parliamentarians and former Bolsonaro ministers are expected. The former first lady is expected to meet her husband at that event.

She planned to receive Bolsonaro at the airport, but changed her mind after the information that the former president will not be able to leave through the terminal’s passenger hall. He will be disembarked in a special scheme and proceed by car to the headquarters of the PL.

The security forces’ justification is that Bolsonaro’s passage through the passenger terminal could cause turmoil and affect the operation of the airport.

In the honorary presidency of the PL, Bolsonaro will be entitled to assemble a team. The formation of the group should be one of the first topics on Bolsonaro’s agenda with the president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto.

Bolsonaro currently has eight advisors with resources paid by the treasury for being a former president. A number of them returned with the former president this Thursday in the United States. Another remained in Brasilia during this period.

Also holding a position in the party is former minister Walter Braga Netto, who was vice-president on Bolsonaro’s defeated ticket last year. He is the national secretary of institutional relations for the party.
