Bolsonaro will dedicate himself to municipalities without a second round in 2024 – 04/30/2023 – Panel

Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) should make a special effort as an electoral supporter in municipal disputes next year in smaller cities, with less than 200,000 inhabitants. The assessment, according to his son and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), is that the former representative has a great ability to transfer votes in these places.
Thus, the PL’s strategy will be to prioritize cities without a second round, in which it is expected to elect a greater number of allied candidates.
“In smaller cities, he will have special dedication, because support can transfer 20%, 30% of votes to a candidate who is our ally in the municipal government”, said the senator to the Panel.
Even though he won in 16 capitals against 11 for the PT, Bolsonaro had a better electoral performance in smaller cities compared to 2018.
According to the senator, the former president will give the final word on the main candidates in the big cities. He himself is one of the names put forward to run for mayor of Rio de Janeiro.
There is a special concern with the Southeast, where, although Bolsonaro had more votes than Lula, he fell far short of his team’s expectations. A special case is Minas Gerais.
“We expected a larger vote in the Southeast, which did not come. We also have to re-analyze something to pay more attention to these large centers”, said Flávio.
