Bolsonaro: Understand coup plan cited by Marcos do Val – 02/02/2023 – Politics

Senator Marcos do Val presented this Thursday (2) a series of reports linking former president Jair Bolsonaro to a coup plan that would be executed last December and would consist of recording Minister Alexandre de Moraes without authorization and then preventing the inauguration of today’s President Lula (PT).

The revelation of the alleged meeting between Bolsonaro, Do Val and the then-deputy Daniel Silveira, is yet another ingredient in the investigations that investigate the participation of the former president in the coup plan that ended in the attacks on the STF, Planalto and Congress buildings on January 8 .

The case adds to Bolsonaro’s historic coup plot and the draft with a coup plan found by the Federal Police at the home of former minister Anderson Torres last month.

The coup plan reported by Do Val this Thursday is also detailed in a series of messages attributed to Daniel Silveira. The messages were revealed by Veja magazine. THE Sheet obtained a copy of one of them.

What would the coup plan be? In general terms, the proposal presented to Marcos do Val would involve recording a conversation that would compromise Minister Alexandre de Moraes, president of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court). Do Val had contact with Moraes from his time working in the field of public security.

According to the coup thesis, the revelation of these audios would lead to a perfect storm for them: Moraes would be arrested, Bolsonaro would remain in office and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva would not take office on January 1st.

Silveira’s plan, according to Do Val, was to record the minister of the Supreme Court and try to get some contradiction out of him that could later arrest him. “If you accept the mission, paraphrasing number 01, we will save Brazil”, says a message attributed to Silveira, revealed by Veja and obtained by Sheet.

“Daniel’s fear of living with the shadow of Alexandre de Moraes wanting to arrest him at any time was very noticeable. Then he wanted to do the opposite. He built a plot for Alexandre to be arrested”, said the senator to Sheet.

THE Would the plan to record Moraes have the participation of government agencies such as Abin and GSI? It is not known, and this will be investigated. In an interview with Veja magazine, Do Val said that Bolsonaro said that the GSI and Abin would take care of technical support, providing spy equipment.

Chief Minister of the Institutional Security Cabinet during the Bolsonaro government, General Augusto Heleno says that any involvement of his portfolio or Abin (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) in the denounced coup plan is “a lie”.

“Any involvement of the GSI or Abin, as institutions, in this ‘plan’ is a lie. I was never aware of any action in this sense”, said Heleno in a message to the Panel.

Did the meeting actually exist? There are no images or records of it on the official agenda, but, in addition to Marcos do Val’s report, there was confirmation of the meeting by Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, son of the former president.

When and where did it occur? According to a report by Veja magazine, it would have taken place on December 9, a Friday, at Palácio da Alvorada. In an interview with Sheet and other press vehicles, however, Marcos do Val says that it may have taken place at the Palácio do Jaburu, at Alvorada or at Granja do Torto. Jaburu is the vice-presidency’s residence, and Torto is the second official residence of the president.

Who attended this meeting? According to the reports so far, Marcos do Val, the impeached federal deputy Daniel Silveira and the then president Jair Bolsonaro were present.

What are Do Val’s different versions of the meeting? At no point does he deny the meeting, but he has sought to alleviate Bolsonaro’s role in the alleged plan.

First, in a live at dawn on his social networks, he said that Bolsonaro tried to coerce him to carry out a coup to remain in the Planalto Palace and prevent the inauguration of the then president-elect Lula.

Hours later, questioned by Sheetthe senator backed away from the direct accusation and said that Bolsonaro “only heard” the plan of former federal deputy Daniel Silveira and said he would think about it.

“[Bolsonaro] just listened along with me, then I asked the questions. The question of legality, and why. Then, when it was time to leave, the only thing the president said was the following: ‘Let’s think about it’.”

Despite this, Do Val told the report that he met with the two because he received a call from the former President of the Republic himself and that he entered the meeting place in a Presidency car.

Did Marcos do Val report to Moraes about this meeting? Do Val says that, after Silveira’s initial contact about scheduling the meeting, he set up a meeting with Moraes and was advised by the minister to listen to what the former president wanted to say. “He said: ‘Go, because the more information the better,'” he told the press.

The senator reported that, after the meeting, he warned Moraes about the conversation, by message. The following week, the two got together again. According to him, Moraes was surprised. The senator also said that Silveira insisted on the plan after the meeting with Bolsonaro.

I wasn’t going to go along with that, but he kept insisting, he wanted to go to the Senate to meet me, he called several times. I didn’t answer. Since that day I said I wasn’t going to do it, I never answered.”

Was Daniel Silveira arrested this Thursday because of that meeting? This is not the official version. The arrest was ordered by the STF after the former parliamentarian failed to comply with precautionary measures imposed by Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

In addition to the arrest, Moraes ordered a search and seizure at Silveira’s residence and the suspension by the PF and the Army of gun registrations in the name of the former congressman. Silveira was sentenced to prison last year after cursing and threatening Supreme Ministers in a video in February 2021.

What does Bolsonaro say about Marcos do Val’s statements? So far the former president has not manifested himself. He has been in the US since December last year, with no deadline for returning to Brazil.

What are the next steps in the case? Marcos do Val will now be heard by the Federal Police. Moraes authorized the taking of a statement —requested by the PF in the open investigation to investigate the coup attacks that took place after the second round of elections and that led to the invasions of the buildings of the three Powers on January 8.

Can this investigation reach Bolsonaro? Yes. The Federal Police operates in four lines of investigation to investigate all the facts and people related to the coup attacks and vandalism carried out by Bolsonaro supporters.

The former president, former Minister of Justice Anderson Torres and authorities who acted or omitted during the coup attempt are in the sights of these investigations.

In the case of Bolsonaro, the PF targets the intellectual authors of the attacks, and Marcos do Val’s testimony may strengthen suspicions that the former president’s repeated coup attempts contributed to the attacks.

A copy of the document was found by the PF three weeks ago at the home of former Minister of Justice Anderson Torres, as revealed by the Sheet.

In an interview with the newspaper O Globo, Valdemar said that several members and interlocutors of the Bolsonaro government had proposals similar to the draft of the coup in their homes.

“That proposal that was in the Minister of Justice’s house, that was in everyone’s house”, he said, adding that Bolsonaro “did not want to do anything outside the law”.

What weighs most against Bolsonaro? The former president is the target of a series of actions in the TSE that ask for his ineligibility for the abuse of economic power in the last elections.
