Defense says he was “never sympathetic” to coup movements
Former president Jair Bolsonaro’s defense said that he remained silent in his statement to the Federal Police (PF) this Thursday. The testimony lasted about 15 minutes. The information is from the O Globo website.
“The president has already left, he used silence as the defense anticipated,” said lawyer Paulo Cunha, claiming that the defense did not have access to all elements of the investigation, such as access to the testimony of Army lieutenant colonel Mauro Cid .
Bolsonaro went to the Federal Police headquarters to give a statement as part of an investigation into an alleged coup attempt. In addition to Bolsonaro, 22 other people, including former ministers and military personnel, were summoned to give testimony today.
Lawyer Paulo Cunha stated that the former president did not commit any crime and also said that Bolsonaro “does not fear anything because he did nothing”. And he added that he was never “sympathetic” to coup movements.
“President Bolsonaro has never been sympathetic to any type of coup movement,” he stated.
In a statement, the former president’s defense also said that Bolsonaro will not give up giving testimony, which he will do as soon as “the access” requested is guaranteed. “It is worth remembering that he never failed to appear before the police when summoned.”
Former ministers Braga Netto (Defense), Augusto Heleno (Institutional Security Office) and the president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, also went to the PF headquarters.
