Bolsonaro: ‘It’s like a family member who has returned’, says deputy – 03/30/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

“A great injection of cheer”. This is how São Paulo state deputy Lucas Bove (PL) describes the meeting he had with former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) this Thursday morning (30), in Brasília, at the headquarters of his party. “He’s our natural leader of the right,” he explains.

The cell phone that the former representative used to grant a live interview to Jovem Pan belonged to the parliamentarian. The deputy says that he was approached by people from the broadcaster to find out if he could help them with the invitation, which was accepted by Bolsonaro. “I asked in the ear, and he said ‘yes'”, he tells the column.

The task guaranteed the first-term deputy a seat next to the president, in a tiny room where about 20 people were crowded, according to him. “The president values ​​loyalty a lot, and everyone who was there was very close to him,” says Bove.

The moment was widely recorded and publicized on their networks. “Ai, que saudade do meu ex”, said the verses of a song by Marília Mendonça chosen by him as the soundtrack of a story on Instagram. In another post, a heart drawn with green and yellow strokes outlined Bolsonaro’s face.

“Everyone was ecstatic, with smiles from ear to ear. He is very patriotic”, he says, recalling the warm welcome. “It’s like a family member who stayed away for a while and came back. And it’s a characteristic of us, of Bolsonaristas, this personal affection that we have with him.”

Bove says he has plans to take Bolsonaro to São Paulo – and that he even made an informal invitation to the former president, which was initially accepted. “I want to promote events [com ele] into São Paulo, take it to our bases to rekindle that flame and put us back [na cena política] right,” he says.

Before this Thursday’s meeting, the parliamentarian of the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo had spoken with the former president by videoconference about two weeks ago, during a coffee at the house of federal deputy Ricardo Salles (PL-SP). Until then, the two had only met during campaign events in 2022.

Lucas Bove complains about an alleged difficulty imposed by the government of Lula (PT) for the reception this Thursday, which would have dispersed many supporters from around the airport, and endorses Bolsonaro’s complaint about the absence of an armored vehicle to receive him .

“More than concern, it made me strange. He has the right to this structure. And despite all the disagreement with former presidents, he [Bolsonaro] never hindered anything that was foreseen or legal”, he says.

According to the Civil House, former presidents have two official vehicles with a driver, but none with armor.
