Bolsonaro invokes flag while Lula creates 9/7 narrative

Former president Jair Bolsonaro spoke this Saturday (2) at a PL Mulher event and said that, over the past four years, he and his voters have learned to “look at the colors of our flag, feel emotion when singing the national anthem National, talking about family, talking about the future, talking about freedom in commerce, talking about respect between institutions”.

The speech takes place on the eve of the week of the Independence Day in Brazil, at a time when President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is trying to impose a campaign to “rescue national symbols” on the population.

The PT narrative says that Bolsonaro would have irregularly appropriated national symbols such as the flag and the anthem. Bolsonaro supporters say the current government resents the fact that the former president managed to awaken patriotism in the nation. They also claim that the Workers’ Party has been trying to replace the green and yellow flag with the left’s red flag.

The government’s campaign is betting on the September 7th celebrations, with Lula’s presence, to try to embed its narrative about the date with the slogan: “Democracy, sovereignty and union”. The idea is to emphasize points such as “health and vaccination”, “peace and sovereignty” and signal to the right with the motto of “defense the Amazon”.

Bolsonaro had been keeping silent over the last few weeks, when he suffered systematic attacks from the Supreme Court and the government bench in the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) of the acts of January 8.

He had secrecy, broken by Justice and was summoned to give another statement to the Federal Police in the investigation that investigates the destination of jewelry received during his term. At the same time, Bolsonaro was the target of accusations without evidence by the hacker Walter Delgatti Netto at the CPMI and the rapporteur Eliziane Gama (PDT-MA) pressured her former assistant to accept a plea bargain agreement against Bolsonaro.

Bolsonaro makes cautious speech after serial attacks by government and justice

The former president was cautious in his speech at PL Mulher, an event presided over by his wife Michele. “I tell you that the world goes by, people change, some leave us, others appear and I am happy because good names, good people are emerging in these eight and a half million square kilometers of our Brazil”, said Bolsonaro, without mentioning the fact of having been made ineligible by decision of the Supreme Court.

Without referring directly to the Supreme Court’s recent abuses of power, Bolsonaro said there must be “respect between institutions”.

“The future of our homeland depends on political decisions. I believe that over the last four years, together we have planted more than seeds, we have planted ideas and ideals for our country,” he said.

Bolsonaro says 2022 is “a page turned”

He spoke saying that Brazil has a lot of arable land, mineral wealth, biodiversity, among other resources. “What’s missing from all these ingredients for us to have a great nation? What’s missing are politicians who have a green and yellow heart. More people are needed to move this mass and place Brazil in the prominent place it deserves”.

The former president’s political strategy should be to travel around the country to try to help elect as many mayors as possible for the PL in the 2024 municipal elections.

“I gave my all in these four years, let’s consider last year a page turned and we’re going ahead because our Brazil, more than a hurry, it needs to change”, he said.

Michele says she had depression and thought about dying after media attacks

Former first lady Michele Bolsonaro made deputy Bia Kicis (PL-DF) official as president of the PL Woman directory in Brasília and encouraged more women to run as candidates for elected office in Brazil.

“We don’t want women just for quotas, we want women in politics because we believe in the potential of each one of them”, she said. Michele said she wants to create a network of right-wing women who fight for ethical, patriotic principles and who “defend the word of the Lord”.

She said in 2019 she went into depression and thought about dying due to the constant press attacks. “I came here just to do good, but they only threw stones, they talked about my daughters. I became the strong woman I am thanks to stones,” she said.
