Bolsonaro in SP speaks profanity, calls Lula a donkey and sees a mission to return to the Presidency – 07/25/2023 – Politics

Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) attended an event in São Paulo this Tuesday (25). In it, he cursed, attacked President Lula (PT), complained about his conviction by the TSE and said that his eventual return to the Planalto Palace is seen by him as a “mission”.

Bolsonaro was declared ineligible for eight years for his lies about the electoral system and will only be able to run in the 2030 presidential election.

In his speech at the São Paulo City Council, Bolsonaro attacked Lula. “Who cares about me or a delivery guy at the Presidency of the Republic? An illiterate. A donkey why not say so.”

He complained about the TSE: “Ah, he attacked the electoral system. Everything is an attack”. And he continued: “Sad is a country that punishes a politician not for his mistakes or shortcomings, but for his virtues. Want to be president again? I wanted to go to the beach, but I understand that it is a mission.”

He also criticized the Truth Commission, which highlighted the crimes of the military dictatorship, which he supported.

“What the fuck is this truth that doesn’t start investigating Celso Daniel [prefeito petista assassinado em Santo André]? It is a left that does not want the good of the country. Anyone can be arrested today for nothing. […] Go to the end of the beach. Everything is a democratic rule of law.”

The event was the affiliation to the PL of Councilman Fernando Holiday, his fifth caption since he entered public life when elected to the City Council of São Paulo in 2016.

Bolsonaro’s trip to São Paulo includes other commitments, such as a dinner with businessmen on Wednesday (26). Bolsonaro will stay for the second time at the Palácio dos Bandeirantes, at the invitation of his ally Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).

The governor of São Paulo already hosted Bolsonaro at the seat of government in São Paulo in June. The new accommodation serves to signal that they have overcome the fight because of the Tax Reform, something that brought wear and tear to Tarcísio along with Bolsonaristas.

A former critic of Bolsonaro, Holiday joined the MBL (Movimento Brasil Livre), but left the group in January 2021 when approaching conservative right-wing flags, such as opposition to abortion.

At the event, the councilor told the parable of the prodigal son, as an analogy for his political trajectory, from a supporter of Bolsonaro in 2018, to an opponent in the following years and, again, a Bolsonarist now. Holiday says he regretted criticism of Bolsonaro.

“I feel like a prodigal son, a son who has made many mistakes and bitterly regrets it, but who is being welcomed back home,” he said. Holiday claimed that Bolsonaro was the only president “truly right-wing and committed to conservative values”.

Holiday also stated that, despite the media classifying Bolsonaro as racist and homophobic, he was affiliated with “a black man who is half queer”, a joke that made the former president laugh.

In addition to Bolsonaro, the president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, part of the federal and state deputies of the PL accompanied the affiliation, as well as the state secretary for Women, Sonaira Fernandes (Republicans). Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) was invited, but had another commitment.

At the event, other young people were affiliated with the PL, such as Lucas Pavanato, a former MBL who should run for the Chamber in 2024. Valdemar said that Holiday will be a candidate for federal deputy for the PL.

The president of the PL also stated that “Bolsonaro is the last word within the party”.

Carlos Bolsonaro (Republicanos-RJ), son of the former president, protested on social media against membership because of Holiday’s past criticism of Bolsonaro. The councilor even said he was in favor of Bolsonaro’s impeachment because of his denialist stance on Covid and the rigging of institutions.

In a demonstration against Bolsonaro on Avenida Paulista in 2021, Holiday called the then president a donkey and corrupt.

In the same year, he was expelled from Patriota in a party movement to try to attract Bolsonaro. “The possibility of Bolsonaro joining the party meant that our paths ended up distancing themselves,” Holiday told the Sheet in season.

In 2016, Holiday was elected by the DEM, but migrated to Patriota to run for re-election in 2020. Then, he entered Novo and also passed by Republicans.
