The lieutenant colonel saw the frying pan

Mauro Cid is collaborating with the investigations. The end point of this collaboration is not known, but the starting point is known.

Living with the former captain, Cid saw how he fried a Minister of Defense and three military commanders. He also saw reserve general Carlos Alberto dos Santos Cruz and the faithful Gustavo Bebianno fried.

Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid and his boss, Jair Bolsonaro, got into trouble because one and the other ignored the lessons of a military leader and a notable aide-de-camp.

The military leader was General Eurico Gaspar Dutra, Minister of War from 1936 to 1945. He needed to recruit an aide-de-camp and asked that each day a candidate accompany him when he left the ministry.

The first came, Dutra told him they were going to his house in Ipanema. At one point the general told the driver to head towards the north zone. The captain politely corrected him.

The next day came the second and the scene repeated itself. The captain was silent. Dutra nominated him.

In 1977, Captain Juarez Marcon, assistant to General João Baptista Figueiredo, accompanied the chief on a visit to Bahia. They boarded a Navy ship, the sea was rough and Figueiredo, in uniform, was talking at the stern. Marcon walked up to him, asked for his cap, and went back to where he was.

When asked why he took the cap, he replied:

“Because the ship is tossing around a lot. If the general falls into the water, there will be no shortage of people to jump in to help him. If only his cap falls, I’ll have to jump in.”
