Former president is accused of inciting the crime of rape

The Federal District Court authorized the continuation of the criminal action in which former president Jair Bolsonaro is accused of inciting the crime of rape.

The case involves the speech given by Bolsonaro in the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies in December 2014, when he was a federal deputy.

At the time, the then parliamentarian said that he would not rape congresswoman Maria do Rosário (PT-RS) because “She didn’t deserve it.” After the statements, Bolsonaro was prosecuted by the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) and by Maria do Rosário.

Bolsonaro began to respond to the accusations in the Federal Supreme Court (STF), but the process was suspended after he assumed the Presidency of the Republic, in 2019. With the end of his term and privileged forum, the case went to the first instance of Justice.

The decision that resumed the case against Bolsonaro was signed on August 24th and released this Tuesday.

Defense

Through social media, the former president spoke about the decision.

“One more: now it’s actually 2014. The persecution doesn’t stop! We have always defended more severe punishment for those who commit this type of crime and precisely those who defend the criminal now become the “victim”. I was insulted, I defend myself and once again the order of facts is modified to confirm yet another political persecution known to everyone!,”

declared.
