Bolsonaristas want to hear the Secretary of Culture of SP – 05/19/2023 – Panel

Bolsonarist parliamentarians of the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo formalized an invitation to the secretary of Culture of Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), Marilia Marton, and to the president of the Padre Anchieta Foundation, José Roberto Maluf, to explain the criteria for producing the broadcaster’s programs.

Presented by Deputy Gil Diniz (PL-SP), the request was approved by the Education and Culture Committee. The request was initially for a summons, but he changed it to an invitation at the request of the government leader, Jorge Wilson (Republicans).

The target of the request is TV Cultura, which, according to Diniz and allied deputies, has deviated from its purpose by showing programs with attacks on former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

The application cites the documentary “O Autoritarismo Está no Ar — 3 Anos Later”, which was taken off the air by TV Cultura in April after criticism by Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) and then republished.

Through interviews, the documentary analyzes Bolsonaro’s responsibility for the January 8 attacks. “He never was or intended to be head of state, because that implies embodying the representation of the country as a whole. Not allowing himself to be encapsulated in the Presidency, which establishes certain restrictions on the exercise of power, was a deliberate act”, says political scientist Sérgio Fausto , one of the interviewees in the documentary.

“TV Cultura, maintained by the Padre Anchieta foundation, has become a hotbed of political activists, only one side has space in the daily programming of its newspapers, there is not even a plurality of ideas. The trigger for the request was the documentary about the rise of right in Brazil, in my opinion, an attempt to criminalize and silence this political field”, says Diniz to the Panel.

“Why does TV Cultura continue like that and Tarcísio does nothing? [Diniz] he is a strongman of the government. I’m government base, but I’m not strong. You have to talk to him. I can’t stand watching that disgusting 8pm news on TV Cultura, which the government pays for with money. It is the most disgusting newspaper that exists in Brazil today”, said Deputy Delegado Olim (PP), in plenary.

Marilia’s choice of Tarcísio as secretary of Culture disappointed the right-wing wing linked to the so-called cultural Bolsonarism, headed by Eduardo Bolsonaro and who commanded the Culture Secretariat of the Bolsonaro government until 2022. paraded before taking office) and is seen as a technique by the governor, who chose to distance himself from the tensions of ideological battles in the cultural area.
