Bolsa Idiomas extends registration for foreign language courses in Manaus

The program offers scholarships to students, aged 10 and over, in foreign language courses

Manaus (AM) – Registration for the Bolsa Idiomas 2023 Program, by the City of Manaus, has been extended until May 9. The program offers scholarships to students, aged 10 and over, in foreign language courses, ranging from full (100%), 75% and 50% of the monthly fee. This year, more than 32,000 scholarships will be made available.

The recipient will receive, free of charge, all the teaching material necessary for training in the chosen language, regardless of the percentage discount on the monthly fee.

To compete for the benefit, the candidate must reside in Manaus; be attending, or have completed elementary school; have a per capita income of no more than 2.5 minimum wages (R$3,300 in current values); and not be a beneficiary of a similar program maintained by the government. The PBI allocates 5% of scholarships to the elderly and 5% to People with Disabilities (PcDs).

“Mayor David Almeida understands the importance of learning a second language and knows that the sooner it starts, the better it will be used. This is very important, because it already prepares the child to get a job in the future”,

said the municipal secretary of Administration, Planning and Management, Ebenezer Bezerra.

The PBI is coordinated by the School of Municipal Public Service and Socio-Educational Inclusion (Espi), linked to Semad and, for 2023, 16 language schools have joined. This year, the Yázigi language network and Rockefeller joined the PBI, and will also offer scholarships. In all, candidates will be able to choose one of the 29 units of these schools, spread throughout the city.

“Bolsa Idiomas is the largest foreign language inclusion program in Brazil, which, under the management of Mayor David Almeida, has been improved every year. Now starting to benefit students from 10 years old. Not to mention that the program has zero cost for the city hall, because schools join voluntarily, without any kind of financial compensation, thus demonstrating the confidence of these institutions in the administration”,

highlighted the general director of Espi, Júnior Nunes.
