Boi Caprichoso participates in the largest Performing Arts Festival in Latin America

Bumbá, two-time champion of the Parintins Festival, makes his debut at the event

Manaus (AM) – Boi-bumbá Caprichoso, once again, is recognized as one of the main festivities of popular culture in northern Brazil and was invited to participate for the first time in the Curitiba Festival (PR). The event, recognized as the largest performing arts festival in Latin America, will host the two-time winning show Boi Negro da Amazônia on March 26th and 27th, 2024.

The official program is in its 32nd edition and takes place from March 25th to April 7th. Fans of Bumbá, two-time champion of the Parintins Festival, will be able to watch Boi Negro da Amazônia at the official opening, on the 26th, at the Mostra Temporada de Musicais and at Teatro Positivo, on the 27th, always starting at 8:30 pm.

The star ox on the forehead will take with it all the energy and tradition of Amazonian culture to the Curitiba stages. This will be the first time that the group will participate in the prestigious festival, promoting a unique encounter between the rich tradition of the North of Brazil and the public passionate about the performing arts from across the country.

“We are very happy to receive this invitation to participate and open this great event that is the Curitiba Festival. For us, invitations like this are very important. Nowadays, there is a lot of talk about issues of decoloniality, the Amazon, about this Brazil that still needs to be shown a lot and Brazilians need to know themselves. Actions like this are of great importance for Brazilian culture”, highlighted the president of the Art Council, Ericky Nakanome.

With its striking characters, engaging choreography and a narrative that celebrates the legends and history of the Amazon region, Boi Caprichoso promises to enchant and move the audience. “We, who are going to take the theme to the arena; Culture, the Triumph of the People, wants to talk about precisely this, wants to debate, wants to participate in events like this and show that representations, work and issues related to the performing arts are in the blood of the artist from Parintina, be it dancing, playing, touching, in the rhythm or in all the artistic manifestations that the ox bumbá of Parintins brings, but also in the construction of allegories, of large scenes and like the ox itself that plays conquering nations, children, elderly people and the people that make up the Parintins party”, Nakanome highlighted.

For the blue-colored president, Rossy Amoedo, the blue and white show will transport spectators to a magical universe, where music, dance and colors come together to tell fascinating stories. “Boi Caprichoso’s participation in the Curitiba Festival represents an opportunity to spread regional culture beyond the borders of Northern Brazil and also a moment of celebration and recognition of the country’s cultural diversity,” she stated.

For the producer of Boi Caprichoso, Carlos Kaita, this is a moment of recognition of the cultural manifestations of the Amazon. “The presence of Boi Caprichoso in this internationally renowned event reinforces the importance of valuing and preserving Brazilian popular traditions”, highlighted Carlão.
