The crisis at Boeing became an opportunity for the business of Airbus, its biggest competitor. Companies loyal to the rival, such as Korena Air and Japan Airlines, became customers. This is what Arturo Barreira, president of Airbus for Latin America, says in an interview with Panel SA.

Boeing has been going through a reputation crisis after the door of a 737 model came loose on a flight operated by Alaska Airlines.

According to Barrreira, the incident led Airbus to receive orders for aircraft from Korean Air and Japan Airlines, which were longtime Boeing customers.

This month, Airbus announced that Korean Air had completed the acquisition process of 33 planes.

We also had orders for Starlux, from Taiwan, and Delta. They ordered the A350. Our products are very well positioned in the market”, he said.

At the beginning of the year, Airbus announced the delivery of 735 commercial aircraft to 87 customers in 2023 and said the year was “exceptional in sales”.

The journalist traveled at the invitation of Iata (International Air Transport Association).
