Bill establishes Sustainable Tourist Communities and creates the Amazonian Sustainable Tourism Seal
Manaus (AM) – On the date on which Ecological Tourism Day is celebrated, state deputy Roberto Cidade (UB), president of the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam), draws attention to Bill No. 014/2024, of his authorship, which establishes the Sustainable Tourist Communities (CTS) and creates the Amazonian Sustainable Tourism Seal. The measure, which aims to encourage the development of this type of tourism combined with environmental protection, also aims to contribute to the defense of local and traditional populations.
According to the City proposal, Sustainable Tourist Communities (CTS) must be composed of a set of tourist equipment and infrastructures, such as: public tourism services, private tourism services, leisure equipment, natural resources and cultural resources.
“Sustainable tourism is, without a doubt, a segment that needs to be better organized, explored responsibly and this will only happen when there is adequate guidance. Our proposal for certification of CTSs aims to add to current legislation and favor sustainable tourism as a tool for social inclusion, benefiting local communities. In addition, there is also the Amazonian Sustainable Tourism Seal, which will facilitate access to specific credit lines and technical training. These measures strengthen tourist activity”,
stated the deputy president.
According to the proposal, it will be up to the Executive Branch, through the competent body, to establish criteria and requirements for CTS certification, taking into account environmental, social and cultural aspects.
CTS is understood as communities that, through the practice of sustainable tourism, are able to balance the interests and resources of the receiving community in a responsible and healthy way in relation to the economic, social and environmental spheres.
Amazon Tourism Seal
The project also provides that Sustainable Tourism Communities certified with the “Amazonense Seal of Sustainable Tourism” will have access to benefits and incentives, such as specific lines of credit, technical training, and publicity in State promotional materials.
The “Amazonian Sustainable Tourism Seal” will be valid for a period to be determined by the Executive, and must be renewed upon proof of maintenance of the requirements that underpinned the certification.
National Ecological Tourism Day
March 1st is celebrated in Brazil as National Ecological Tourism Day.
The date was created to celebrate ecotourism, in order to promote visits to natural heritage sites and raise awareness for the conservation of natural reserves and ecosystems.
