Bill proposes split vacations for military police officers in Amazonas

Project aims to improve the quality of life and preserve the mental health of military police officers
Manaus (AM) – State deputy Dr. Mayara Pinheiro Reis (Republicans) filed Bill No. 1,238/2023 to allow the splitting of vacations for military police officers in Amazonas.
The project provides for the addition of item 5 to article 61 of Law No. 1154/1975 which, if sanctioned, will come into effect with the following wording: “Vacation may be divided into up to three periods per year with a minimum of 10 days at a time.”
For Mayara, the initiative is a way to improve the quality of life and preserve the mental health of military police officers.
“News of military police officers suffering from mental disorders, especially anxiety, panic attacks, alcoholism, insomnia, depression, loss of interest or meaning in life, are becoming commonplace. The intense work and extensive routine end up causing the silent mental illness of countless police officers”,
justifies the deputy in the project.
Data from the National Security Secretariat (Senasp) indicate that Amazonas is in seventh place in the ranking of states that record the most police suicides in Brazil and is the second state in the North to record the most cases.
The parliamentarian also states that, despite the Senasp survey, there is a lack of specific data and a lack of clarity regarding information on police deaths as a result of self-harm or suicide. And this not only affects the category of police officers, but the direction of public safety.
“The subject has been little discussed, but we must enable and implement the formulation of policies that respond to the problem and welcome professionals with compromised mental health, but who remain working in direct contact with the community”,

The project is being processed in the Legislative Assembly.
