The law aims to prohibit the charging of any amount or fee for maternity hospitals to allow the father and/or companion to attend the birth

Manaus (AM) – With the aim of promoting a culture of humanized care at the time of childbirth, state deputy Roberto Cidade (UB), president of the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam), presented a Bill (PL) that prohibits the charging of any amount or fee for maternity hospitals to allow the father and/or companion to attend the birth at the obstetric center.

According to the proposal, the prohibition of charging any amount or fee by maternity hospitals to allow the father and/or companion to attend the birth within the obstetric center refers to the amounts charged for hygiene, sterilization and other procedures necessary for the person can enter the obstetric center, regardless of the nomenclature given to the charge.

“Our proposal aims to provide a humanized and emotionally welcoming environment, since the affective presence, without a doubt, makes the difference at that moment. The presence of the father and/or companion at the obstetric center is an essential measure to ensure the physical and emotional health of the pregnant woman, the baby and the family as a whole. In addition, by prohibiting the charging of any amount or fee for private maternity hospitals, the legislation will be acting in favor of equal access to this very important moment, regardless of the financial situation of those involved”,

defended.

The World Health Organization (WHO) indicates that the presence of a companion during childbirth can reduce the use of unnecessary medical interventions, provide a greater sense of security to the parturient and result in more respectful and humanized deliveries.

Another relevant data is a survey by the Ministry of Health, which shows that countries that adopt policies of free access to the obstetric center for companions during childbirth have significantly lower rates of obstetric violence and psychological complications arising from the parturition process.
