Bilingual schools in Manaus receive visit from Japanese teachers

Educators visited the two teaching units that offer Japanese as a second language

Full-Time State Schools (EETIs) Prof°. Djalma da Cunha Batista and Prof. Jacimar da Silva Gama, received, this Tuesday (8), the visit of Japanese professors Akira Ikeguchi, of Applied Linguistics, and Yukari Hashimoto, of Geography, from the National University of Yokohama, in Japan.

The teachers participated in meetings with the management of the two schools in the state education network in Amazonas that offer Japanese as a second language. On the occasion, visitors were able to get a close look at the structure of the EETIs, such as the library, classrooms, robotics laboratory – Espaço Maker, in addition to the works produced by students in Japanese subjects. At the end, the teachers received a book and a T-shirt from the school.

Both schools have Portuguese-Japanese bilingual teaching, with EETI Djalma Batista being the first to offer this type of structure in Brazil, with classes from the 5th to 9th grade of Elementary School, and EETI Jacimar Gama, with classes from 1st to 3rd year of high school.

The teacher and coordinator of bilingual education, Erika Tomioka, said that the visit only reinforces the good work being done in schools, and serves as an incentive for all professionals dedicated to teaching bilingual education.

“We are reaping the fruits of the school’s results. The fact that they are here serves as an incentive for Japanese language teachers, because it is the result of this work that has been carried out since 2016. And that makes our work publicized throughout Brazil and also in Japan”,

explained the coordinator.

Also present was Ufam’s Japanese course teacher, Ruchia Uchigasaki. She acted as a translator and interpreter among the teachers and professionals at the school.

Professor Yukari Hashimoto, PhD in Applied Linguistics, in the area of ​​Japanese Language Education, said she was happy to see the students studying the Japanese language, and highlighted the commitment, excitement and participation of the students.

“Students and teachers are very active. The students are very participative and excited, I am happy that they are studying Japanese here in Manaus, and that I get to know all of them. The school is very famous and when I visited Ufam, the teachers explained about the Djalma school and I was interested in knowing it”,

said the visiting professor.
