Bia Kicis is the new leader of the Minority in the Chamber of Deputies

Federal deputy Bia Kicis (PL-DF) will replace deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) in leading the Minority bloc in the Chamber of Deputies. The decision was taken after a meeting between the parliamentarian and the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The information was confirmed this Tuesday (6) by the parliamentarian, who will take office on Wednesday (7).
“A year with many challenges. As leader of the Minority and together with the leader of the opposition, [Carlos Jordy,] I intend to organize the group to work on priority issues, to rescue Parliament’s prerogatives and to obstruct the government’s excesses,” Bia Kicis told People’s Gazette.
The opposition was already working on the possibility of changing the leadership of the Minority. Upon taking over the group last year, Eduardo Bolsonaro informed his allies that he would only stay for one year. The party worked with two more names for this succession: Júlia Zanatta (SC) and Marcos Pollon (MS).
However, Bia Kicis is seen by the party as the name with the best transit among parliamentarians. Another factor that helped the choice is the fact that it does not need to focus on municipal elections, as the DF does not participate in the election.
Like other leaders, the Minority leader participates in the College of Leaders – a group that debates with the President of the Chamber the projects to be voted on by parliamentarians. It is up to him to oppose the government leader. He can also guide votes and has speaking time provided for in the ordinance.
