Bia Ferreira wins bi at the Pan and prepares goodbye to Olympic boxing in Paris – 27/10/2023 – Sport

Beatriz Ferreira confirmed her favoritism and won another gold medal at the Pan American Games. Champion in the under-60 kg contest in 2019, in Lima, the 30-year-old boxer repeated her success in Santiago, with a quiet victory in the decision on Friday (27).

The Bahian had an advantage over Colombian Angie Valdéz in all three rounds. In the first, three of the judges gave her 10 points, and two of them chose the best rival. In the other two, the view was unanimous that the now two-time Pan-American champion was superior.

The campaign in Chile earned Bia a place at the Paris Olympic Games next year. Silver medalist at the Tokyo Games, held in 2021, she set the goal of seeking the gold that eluded her in Japan.

“It’s my last Pan. I closed it with a flourish. It’s my last cycle, I think we have to know when to start and when to end. Now I’m going after the Olympic gold medal. I think I’m on the right path”, he stated the Brazilian.

The first woman from Brazil to reach an Olympic Games final in boxing, Beatriz is coming off good recent results. In March, she defeated the same opponent she had at the Pan, Angie Valdéz, and won the World Championship. After Paris, she intends to switch to professional boxing.

The Bahian wasn’t the only one to display the yellow-green flag in the ring on Friday. Brazil qualified to nine finals. Tatiana Chagas lost to Colombian Yeni Arias in the under-54 kilos category and took silver.

Also taking silver were Abner Teixeira (over 92 kg) and Michael Douglas (up to 54 kg), who lost by WO due to physical problems. Another five representatives from the country will take to the ring throughout the day to fight for gold.
