Betting Mafia: STJD punishes Bauermann with 12 games of suspension and bans two players – News of Brazil

Eight players involved in the Mafia of Betting in Brazilian football were judged this Thursday (1st) by the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD).
The complaints are based on three articles of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice (CBJD): Art. 191, Art. 243 and Art. 243-A. The punishments involve a fine of R$ 100 to R$ 100 thousand and suspension. Sanctions are cumulative. The judgment of the STJD concerns only the sporting scope.
Some players were even at the trial, including defender Eduardo Bauermann, who had played for América-MG and who defended Santos at the time of his involvement with the scheme. He was suspended for 12 games.

- Moraes (Aparecidense-GO): 760 days of suspension and R$ 55,000 fine
- Gabriel Tota (without a club): eliminated from football and a fine of R$ 30,000
- Paulo Miranda (without club): 1,000 days suspended and R$ 105,000 fine
- Eduardo Bauermann (Santos): 12-game suspension
- Igor Cariús (Sport): acquitted
- Fernando Neto (São Bernardo): 380 days of suspension and R$ 25,000 fine
- Matheus Gomes (without a club): eliminated from football and fined R$ 10,000
- Kevin Lomónaco (Bragantino): 380 days of suspension and R$ 25,000 fine
It is worth remembering that the votes were given in the first instance. The decision can be appealed to the full STJD.
The criminal investigation, conducted by the Public Ministry of Goiás (MP-GO), investigates the involvement of recruiters with players to participate in certain actions in last year’s Brazilian Championship games and this year’s state championships.
Kevin Lomónaco and Moraes reached an agreement with the Public Ministry of Goiás (MP-GO) not to become defendants in the criminal sphere. The agreement does not prevent them from suffering sporting sanctions determined by the STJD.
Next trial already scheduled
On Tuesday (6), five more athletes involved will be judged. They are: Allan Godói, André Luiz “Queixo”, Mateusinho, Paulo Sérgio and Ygor Catatatu. They will be judged at 11:30 am (Brasília time) by the 5th Disciplinary Commission of the STJD.
They were Sampaio Corrêa players in 2022, when they agreed to participate in the scheme in a match against Londrina, for the last round of Série B of the Brazilian Championship.
All were denounced in four articles of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice (CBJD), including article 242, which provides for the maximum penalty of banning the sport. The judgment will be in the sports sphere, but the five names are also defendants in the first lawsuit filed by the MP-GO.
Among the trials already completed or scheduled, only two names remain. The steering wheel Joseph, who was in Tombense, must still be judged by the STJD.
Defender Victor Ramos, then at Portuguesa-SP, will be judged only by the Court of Sports Justice of São Paulo, considering that he was summoned in a match for the Campeonato Paulista.
Operation Maximum Penalty
The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Goiás filed a new complaint against 17 people under Operation Penalty Maximum II. Those accused are divided into three groups: financiers, gamblers and intermediaries. Six players are reported in this new phase. The punters enticed athletes so that they would be punished throughout matches in Series A and B of the 2022 Brazilian Championship.
There are fifteen players formally denounced and another nine people classified as intermediaries between athletes and punters. Bruno Lopez de Moura is appointed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office as head of the gang.
