Manaus (AM) – The Bernardo Ramos Numismatic Museum, located on the premises of the Provincial Palace, celebrates 123 years of its creation on November 30th. To honor the date, the opening ceremony of the exhibition “The Réis of Paris of the Tropics” will be held at 7 pm, which features photographs of coins and banknotes that are part of the museum’s collection.

The photographic exhibition is the result of the talent of seven renowned photographers and incorporates a figurative sense that highlights the richness and splendor of the Belle Époque, a golden period in the history of the city of Manaus, sharing with the public a vision of daily life at that time. After the opening event, the exhibition remains open to the public, free of charge, until January 31st at the Provincial Palace.

At the ceremony, which takes place on November 30th, the space will feature a performance by singer Alex Alencar, who will bring a mix of Brazilian Popular Music and tunes. In addition to the musical attraction, a coffee break will be offered to the public, as well as employees dressed in clothes from the golden era of rubber to bring complete immersion into the exhibition.

The Museum’s collection was organized by the Amazonian merchant, researcher, self-taught and scientist Bernardo d´Azevedo da Silva Ramos, at the end of the 19th century. On October 6, 1899, the collection was acquired by the State through Law No. 296. The collection today has more than 35 thousand pieces including coins, medals, banknotes, stamps, postcards, machines and a small specialized library.

“The Bernardo Ramos Numismatic Museum was created on November 30, 1900. It was once considered the fourth in the world and is currently one of the largest in Latin America in terms of value and historical importance”, reported Dênio Mota, Museum manager, about the history of the place. “Bernardo Ramos’ multifaceted life is a testament to his love for the Amazon and his unwavering commitment to the progress of his community,”

evaluates Dênio.
