The former Minister of Mines and Energy in the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Bento Albuquerque, may be exonerated from the board of directors of the Itaipu Binacional plant later this week. The replacement was confirmed to People’s Gazette by the ministry.

According to the folder, the process of replacing the directors has been underway since the beginning of the year following the “guidelines and alignment” with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The names, says the ministry, have already been formalized before Minister Alexandre Silveira, approved by the Brazilian Company of Participations in Nuclear and Binational Energy (ENBpar) and are now in the Civil House to finalize the nomination and publication processes.

“The change of Bento Albuquerque should be implemented this week”, concludes the ministry in a note to the report. In addition to the former minister, former minister Adolfo Sachsida, who succeeded Albuquerque, and Célio Faria Junior, former minister of Bolsonaro’s Government Secretariat, also form part of the current board of Itaipu.

Admiral Bento Albuquerque is involved in the case of jewelry allegedly given as a gift by the government of Saudi Arabia to the former president and former first lady, Michelle Bolsonaro. The former minister should be heard by the Federal Police later this week.
