The mix of rhythms and culture provided by the State Government, at the 52nd Expofeira do Amapá, remains in evidence. This time Hip Hop set the tone for the Sports Festival of the State Secretariat for Sports and Leisure (Sedel), with exciting duels on Wednesday night (04) between B-boys and B-girls, who faced each other in the elimination of Batalha Amapá Breaking.
The tournament, held at the Fazendinha Exhibition Park, in Macapá, brings together some of the main names in the sport in the state, in the kids (up to 13 years old), adults, male and female, and trio categories. The finals will be played this Thursday, 5th, starting at 6pm, at the Sedel stand.
“The opening of the event was very positive, I am grateful for the support of the State Government, through Sedel, which is developing this important work to promote breaking, which has become a high-performance sport and is at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024 . Participating in Expofeira is fundamental to spreading our modality, not only as a sport, but as culture, entertainment and leisure”, said Guinho Videira, president of the Amapá Breaking Federation.
The possibility of dissemination brought the modality closer together, which emerged in the 70s in the Bronx region, in New York, in the United States, bringing together street dance, ginga and technique, by the young Jamile Teixeira. The physiotherapy student was able to learn a little more about the sport, impressed by the maneuvers performed by the athletes.
“I was passing by to go to the Amusement Park, but the event ended up catching my attention. I already knew breaking as an element of Hip Hop, but I didn’t know that it had already been recognized as an Olympic sport”said Jamile.
One of the state’s best-known athletes, B-boy Snoop, who has participated in international tournaments, is also one of the event’s attractions. A resident of the Macapaba Housing Complex, in the North Zone of the capital, highlighted the importance of sport at Expofeira, but also of activating it in peripheral areas of the state.
“It is good to occupy these spaces that are used for major events, but it is also important that it is further strengthened, to popularize our sport, as breaking, in addition to having fun and being a sport, has a rescue role, acting within the periphery”, declared Snoop.In addition to the experienced athletes, Batalha Amapá de Breaking also opened the stage for those who are taking their first steps in the sport, such as 13-year-old B-girl Yasmin, who competes in the tournament in the kids and women’s categories. The beginner discovered breaking through her brother, François, who is also an athlete and competes in the competition.
“I watched my brother’s videos and started to get interested, until one day I asked to be put in the class taught by him, and now I’m learning. I follow him in competitions, but I see that here in Macapá there are few B-girls, I hope that because of events like this, more girls will be attracted to the sport”said Yasmin.
