Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), summoned Anderson Torres’ lawyers to provide clarification, within 48 hours, on the device passwords delivered by the former Minister of Justice in the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government.

According to Moraes’ decision this Friday (28), the Federal Police reported “that none of the passwords provided were correct, which made it impossible to extract the data stored in the Torres cloud service”.

Torres is the target of investigation for alleged omission in the face of the threats of the acts. At the time, he was Secretary of Security for the Federal District. The former secretary has been in prison for three months as determined by Moraes.

In the decision in which he maintained the arrest of the former minister on the 20th, Moraes said that the former minister only authorized access to passwords after more than a hundred days of the coup acts of January 8th.

“Torres removed from the investigations the possibility of accessing his cell phone, consequently, the exchange of messages carried out on the day of the coup acts and in the periods before and after, and his electronic messages”, he said.

He also pointed out alleged omissive conduct by Torres in the permanence of the protesters’ camp in the SMU (Urban Military Sector) and the risk generated by him in the acts.

This Friday, Minister Luís Roberto Barroso also denied requests for habeas corpus made by the former minister’s defense against Moraes’ decision.

He maintained that the plenary of the STF has already reaffirmed its jurisprudence in the sense that habeas corpus filed against a monocratic decision by the court minister is not applicable.

Torres’ defense alleged worsening of his psychic condition and risk of suicide when asking once again for the former minister’s freedom, on Wednesday (26).

According to the lawyers, if he is not released, “the only certainty is that his mental state will tend to get worse”. He also argued that his pre-trial detention is illegal for its duration.
