Azul sells domestic tickets more expensive than international ones – 11/16/2023 – Panel SA

Destinations served only by Azul in locations further away from large urban centers register prices as high as international routes served by the same company.

At airports where Azul faces competition with Latam and Gol, its fares tend to be lower, a way of gaining market share in these areas where the two rivals are older and more consolidated, such as in Congonhas (SP).

Using the company’s own application, a flight between Viracopos airport, in Campinas (SP), and Caldas Novas (GO), for example, varies from R$2,966 to R$3,473, departing in March next year — four months is a period recommended by the sector to enjoy lower rates.

In the same period, the stretch between Vilhena (RO) and Cuiabá (MT) costs R$ 2,154; and the one that connects the capital of Mato Grosso to Aripuanã, in the same state, costs R$3,230.

Prices can be higher than those charged in some international destinations.

To fly from Campinas to Paris (France) with Azul, in March, a passenger can find tickets for less than R$2,000. Departing from the interior of São Paulo to Montevideo, Uruguay, the cost is around R$1,000.

According to Anac (National Civil Aviation Agency), among the three main airlines operating in the country, Azul is the one with the highest fare. In August, the average real price of a ticket sold by the company was R$765, while Gol’s was R$575 and Latam’s was R$593.

Azul said that prices vary according to factors such as route, seasonality, advance purchase, seat availability, among others.

Also according to the company, the rise in the dollar, the price of aviation fuel (QAV) and international conflicts also affect the price.

Today, the company describes itself as the largest in the country in terms of number of flights and destinations. Azul claims to operate in 150 cities.
