Away from CBF, Ednaldo says he will no longer run for elections – 12/29/2023 – Sports

Removed from the presidency of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) by decision of the Rio Court since December 7th, Ednaldo Rodrigues stated this Friday (29th) that he no longer intends to run for president of football’s highest entity.

The statement was made in an interview with Veja magazine and was his first since losing his position. “I need to wait for the mission of FIFA and Conmebol, and also the decisions of the Court, to understand the scenario and have some definition. For my part, I have talked a lot with my family and made a commitment: my time of electoral disputes is over”, said the top hat.

The situation of Brazilian football’s highest entity is complex. The court ordered José Perdiz, president of the STJD (Superior Court of Sports Justice), appointed as intervenor in the CBF, to call elections in January. On the other side, FIFA and Conmebol state that they do not recognize the intervention and ask that such an election be held before a delegation of the entities comes to Brazil.

If Ednaldo is left out of a possible dispute, the election scenario, which does not yet have a set date, but should be held in mid-January, would have two names: Flavio Zveiter, former president of the STJD and also former leader of the CBF in Ednaldo management, and Reinaldo Carneiro Bastos, president of the FPF (São Paulo Football Federation) and also former vice-president of the CBF.

Without elaborating on his departure from the entity, Ednaldo told the magazine that he does not intend to review the decision not to run again for the position even in the event of a reversal based on the appeals made by his lawyers at the Federal Supreme Court and the Superior Court of Justice.

“I trust the Justice and the sports bodies. If the validity of the TAC is recognized, I will seek dialogue with all actors to make the necessary changes, until the election in 2025, in which I will not participate,” he said.

The TAC (Conduct Adjustment Term), agreed between the CBF and the MP-RJ (Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro), in 2022, paved the way for Rodrigues’ election, but has now been considered illegal by the courts.
